Programs at Steps to Work

If you’re unemployed and want to start or get back into work, Steps to Work can help you prepare for employment and make the most of your skills and abilities. We understand that you might need support to find a job and overcome any barriers so we offer a variety of services tailored to your individual needs.

The services we offer include:

  • Training to help with things like confidence building and motivation;
  • CV writing support and guidance;
  • Job search support;
  • much more

Clever Costings

The Clever Costings course is a 6-week course designed to enhance numeracy skills for Staffordshire residents aged 19 and above, focusing on areas such as budgeting, saving, borrowing, and credit scores. The course aims to boost confidence in handling financial decisions and provides personalised support from a dedicated team. Enrolment is open to individuals seeking to improve numeracy skills for both personal and professional development.

LEAFF project

LEAFF is a 12-week aftercare funding project by Gamble Aware, providing one-to-one support for individuals affected by gambling harm, encompassing activities to enhance wellbeing, confidence, and motivation, along with employment, budgeting, and housing support, emphasising social inclusion, and catering not only to those directly struggling with a gambling addiction but also to friends and family impacted by gambling actions.

Walsall bridges

This initiative aims to assist various segments of the local community, including individuals aged 16+, those aged 50+, members of the BAME and LGBTQ+ communities, people with disabilities, individuals with physical and mental health challenges, lone parents, carers, isolated women, ex-military personnel, ex-offenders, and those who have experienced substance misuse, in overcoming barriers and progressing towards employment through personalised support, skills development, and access to relevant opportunities.

Community hub

We are partnered with Your Local Pantry to run a Community Hub in Pleck, Walsall, providing affordable food and hygiene products to residents within a 1-mile radius, along with employment support, benefits assistance, and budgeting help; membership is free, and visitors pay £5 per visit for 10 items, fostering community support and empowerment.

Armed forces support

Steps to Work, as a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, provides employment support, training, and development opportunities for the Armed Forces community, including Cadets, Veterans, and Reservists, offering one-to-one sessions, digital and in-person, covering careers advice, CV support, confidence workshops, volunteering opportunities, digital skills training, and more.

Black Country Futures

Steps to Work, as the lead delivery partner for Black Country Futures, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, supports individuals aged 16 and above, including those facing multiple barriers, through one-to-one sessions and workshops, offering employability training, confidence building, volunteering opportunities, digital skills, financial advice, housing support, and more, with an inclusive focus on specific groups such as those aged 50+, BAME community, refugees, migrants, individuals with health issues, ex-offenders, lone parents, care leavers, long-term unemployed, and others, in collaboration with a network of 13 specialist delivery partners.

The Restart Scheme

The Restart Scheme, part of the UK Government’s ‘Plan for Jobs’ initiative, provides enhanced support for Universal Credit claimants out of work for 12 to 18 months in the West Midlands, facilitated by Steps to Work through a 5-step process to break down employment barriers and secure sustainable employment.

Nifty numbers

Our Nifty Numbers course is designed to help you better understand budgeting, money and ways to save. Feeling confident with numbers helps in every aspect of life, from paying bills and banking online, to doing the weekly food shop or planning days out with the kids.
