BBO Bridges Case Study: Uplifting Experience

Frederick came to us after experiencing unemployment for a long time as he had been struggling to cope with his wife’s passing away. He had experienced mental health problems after that and he was not able to find the motivation to move on. However, things have changed for him and now he has made fantastic progress thanks to the work we have done together. To learn more about his journey with us, read his story told by himself.

I met with Steps To Work’s project officer Kajal through a referral from the job centre, it was new and incredible, I could not believe that this company was there to give help to the more disadvantaged, lost and those that had been hurt mentally and physically. Since losing my wife in 2017, It had a negative impact on me emotionally and I didn’t feel like doing anything. The Bridges Project has been amazing support since, as it has helped me to build my confidence, gain SIA training, and job search and helped me to secure employment.

The project supported me by applying for jobs and getting me prepared for my interview. My overall experience with Bridges was very pleasing, I got all the support and help I needed to get back into work, despite the different types of barriers I had.

Kajal was very supportive in explaining everything to me and letting me use a laptop to assist me to get my SIA badge. Kajal also supported me in improving my confidence and motivation with her constant positive mindset and support to get back into employment. I now feel confident about being able to start and stay at work, whereas before I signed up with Bridges, I had no hope and motivation to find work. I gave up looking for work, due to believing that there was not much of a chance for me because of my age. However, Kajal made me feel very valued and appreciated and supported me with finding work regardless of my age.

I would undoubtedly recommend Bridges to anyone looking for help or support to overcome their barriers and eventually get back into employment. Not only did Bridges and Kajal my project officer help to get me back into employment, but she also put me forward to complete SIA training, which I thoroughly enjoyed and met some nice people. I then received my SIA badge, which I was absolutely chuffed about as this allowed me to apply for security roles now that I am fully qualified.

Thanks a lot to BBO Bridges and my project officer, Kajal, for helping me on this journey.
