BBO Bridges Case Study: Success does not have age

After being out of work for over 20 years, Angela was referred to Access to Business by her Bridges’ work coach to explore her options.  During initial contact with her, it became clear that she needed support and guidance to help her find a way forward in her life.  Angela confessed that she had found herself in a situation where she awoke each morning to face a battle with her mental health due to the fact that she had been a victim of domestic violence in the past, and her once confident nature had evaporated long ago. The only thing that gave her strength was her children.

Despite the challenges she had endured, she was adamant that she would like to get into employment and regain both her emotional and mental resilience in order to do so. It was evident, even in the early stages of her participation in the BRIDGES project, that `a light seemed to switch on` and she began to regain confidence in herself and her own abilities that she believed had been lost forever. Working together, we have started exploring options for self-employment.

While exploring a range of opportunities, Angela decided to attend Access to Business’ online core self-employment workshops on a flexible basis. Taking into consideration her childcare commitments, she decided that she would love to work towards becoming a self-employed Beauty Therapist. We were delighted to see Angela growing her confidence and taking on a new journey whilst pursuing her passion. We are all so glad that Angela found a new direction and are sure she will succeed in her new career path!
