BBO Bridges Case Study: A new path moving forward

Before joining BBO Bridges, John* graduated from Coventry University with a degree in Computer Science and had relied on Universal Credit while looking for suitable job opportunities.

He has previously experienced harassment and was a victim of bullying due to his disability and, in the last couple of months, has been impacted by the loss of both his mother and his dog. As a result of these tragic events, he has been struggling to cover his basic needs, including food and paying bills, but hasn’t given up on finding a job as soon as possible.

See below his story in his own words, which details John’s experience with us:

“When I met with Steps To Work’s employment coaches, it felt new and incredible. I could not believe that this company was here to give help to those who were disadvantaged, lost and those that had been hurt mentally and physically. I received help with courses and was stunned when Kirsty from Bridges introduced herself with a food donation delivered to my door. I nearly cried!”

While he was on project, we worked with John on his confidence and developed his skills to carry out job searches on his own. We offered him useful techniques on how he can present himself during the interviews, providing him with practical tips how he could improve further.

As a result of working together, and Kirsty showing John the ropes of interview skills and providing practical advice, he was soon invited to an interview and has been offered a temporary work contract.

“Kirsty was an angel to me! I cannot be more grateful to get a job, even if it is on a temporary contract for now, but I have been given a great chance to showcase my skills.”

Bridges is funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund. For more information about the project, please visit stepstowork.co.uk/walsall-bridges/ or contact us on 01922 627555.
